street. one of the officers shot but missed him. he was picked up when nearby officers stepped in. >> the activity was broadcast over a police radio. the second officer fired his weapon. >> the suspect is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg. a man allegedly kidnapped his own roommate and held them for ransom. police say justin gorham forced his roommate into his truck at gunpoint. they got into an argument over a $2,000 debt. police eventually caught up with justin gorham and found the victim unharmed in the back seats. >> doctors and hospitals are urged to stop using a steroid

unemployment rate will go up to 8.2%. how much will this impact the race for the white house so close to the election? president obama and mitt romney visiting swing states in the keeping an eye on today's unemployment report. an economist says it looks like the economy we have now is the one we'll have on election day. >> i do not think we will see any movement that will sway this election either way. >> the unemployment rate does have an effect on voters. including those who are looking for jobs. or those who have dropped out of the labor force altogether. >> you can blame obama and you could say it is not his fault. it is another reminder that the recovery is not going smoothly. >> the federal reserve is doing

almost everything in its power to provide the conditions for further economic growth. >> it is up to congress and whoever is elected this fall to make a difference. >> we can wait or we can change our policies and have a more aggressive fiscal policy. >> it could be another 3 per quarter years before we see the jobless rate go below 6% -- it could be another three or four years before we see the jobless rate go below 6%. the nation has been adding jobs. we're feeling more confident in the economy. debt is down. it is a mixed signal but seems to be turning positive.
